The brief called for “a campus of elements”, rather than a singular monumental object. All the elements are grouped around the north/south extension of the park and the Royal Exhibition Building. The Forest Gallery, a large lightweight enclosure housing trees, birds, insects and fish, waterfalls and other elements of a Victorian temperate forest, forms the centrepoint of this axis.

There is significant vertical interpenetration in the Campus Center, the planning and the volume conceived very much in concert, according to the following strategies: Identity , View, and Massing.The main entry to the building was planned at the termination of this axis.The three-story portion of the facility is also massed with its center line on the street axis, at the westerly third of the site.

It is nearly indisputable to claim that Herzog and de Meuron have forged an ambitious and innovative, if not revolutionary career. Based in Switzerland, they have achieved something that many, perhaps most Swiss architects have not; the establishment of an international portfolio. Preferring to challenge architectural typologies on a global scale instead of constraining themselves to the isolated practices enjoyed by many Swiss firms, Herzog and de Meuron are arguably among the worlds most renowned architects. Their practice and theory have generated as much acclaim as they have controversy. While I am of the opinion that their explorations have placed them well outside of the subjective field I am characterizing as “Swiss architecture”, their work undoubtedly presents the tectonic expression of materiality that is the subject of my research; the expression, however, is markedly different than their Swiss contemporaries.

New architecture design building built called Acropolis Museum in Athens, Greece, designed by Bernard Tschumi Architects will open in June. This museum will be provided a permanent house to archaeological treasures from the Acropolis
